What cookies are and why we use them

Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store on the device you are using. When you return to the site, your browser sends those files back to us, which allows pages to recognise your device, remember what you have already done and keep your session secure. Similar technologies, such as pixels, tags and local storage, work in much the same way, and everything written on this page applies to them as well.

We use cookies for a small number of practical reasons:

  • We keep you signed in and move you safely between the lobby, the cashier and your account pages.
  • We protect accounts and payments by spotting unusual activity and blocking automated misuse.
  • We remember settings you have chosen, such as your preferred language or whether sound is switched on.
  • We measure how the site is used, so that slow pages, broken steps and confusing layouts can be found and fixed.
  • We check whether our advertising reaches the right audience and limit how often the same message is shown.

Cookies that are strictly necessary are set because the site cannot be delivered without them. Every other category is set only where you have given your consent in the cookie notice, and you can withdraw that consent later without affecting the lawfulness of anything done before you changed your mind. Where cookies involve personal data, our Privacy Policy explains how that data is handled and what rights you have over it.

The types of cookies we use

We group cookies into four categories. The category decides whether your consent is needed and what the cookie is allowed to do.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies keep the site working and your account safe. They hold your session open while you are signed in, balance traffic across our servers so that pages load, carry your progress through the cashier, and support the security checks that sit behind deposits, withdrawals and account verification. They also store the choices you make in the cookie notice itself, so that we do not ask you the same question on every visit. Because the service cannot be provided without them, they are set as soon as you open the site and cannot be switched off from our notice.

Performance and analytics cookies

These cookies tell us how the site behaves in real use: which pages are opened, how long they take to load, where a journey is abandoned and which error messages appear most often. The information is collected in aggregate and used to improve layout, speed and stability. We do not use it to build a picture of an individual player's gambling for marketing purposes.

Functionality cookies

These cookies remember preferences so that the site behaves the way you left it. Typical examples are your chosen language or display settings, whether you have dismissed an on-screen message, and details that allow live chat to keep the thread of a conversation when you move between pages. If they are declined, the site still works, but you may need to set your preferences again on each visit.

Marketing cookies

These cookies record which promotional messages you have been shown and whether they brought you to the site, and they help us avoid repeating the same message. Some are set by advertising suppliers on our behalf, which means those suppliers may also read their own cookies when you visit other sites. We do not direct gambling advertising at anyone under 18, and we exclude from marketing audiences any account that has taken a time-out or self-excluded.

Some cookies are set by us and some by suppliers who provide parts of the service, such as payment processing, fraud prevention, game content and site measurement. Suppliers may use what they collect only for the purpose we have asked them to carry out.

How to manage cookies

You have two ways to control cookies, and you can use either of them at any time.

In the cookie notice on the site

When you first open the site, the cookie notice asks which categories you accept. You can accept all, decline everything that is not strictly necessary, or open the settings panel and choose category by category. Your choice is saved, and you can open the same panel again from the site footer to change it. A change takes effect immediately for new cookies; those already stored can be cleared in your browser.

In your browser settings

Every current browser lets you control cookies directly. The menu names differ, but the steps are broadly the same:

  1. Open the settings or preferences menu in your browser.
  2. Find the section covering privacy, security or site data.
  3. Choose whether to allow, block or delete cookies, either for all sites or for this one.
  4. Clear the cookies already stored if you want to remove earlier choices, then close and reopen the browser.

Browsers also offer private windows, which usually delete cookies when the window is closed, and most devices allow advertising identifiers to be reset or limited in the operating system settings. Controls set on one browser or device do not carry across to another, so you will need to repeat them on each one you use.

Clearing cookies signs you out

Deleting cookies removes the file that keeps your session open, so you will be asked to sign in again and any settings you had chosen will return to their defaults.

What happens if you block cookies

Blocking or deleting cookies is your choice, and it does not affect your right to use the parts of the site that work without them. It does, however, have practical effects:

  • Blocking strictly necessary cookies at browser level will usually stop you signing in, because the session cannot be held open.
  • Deposits, withdrawals and verification steps may fail part-way through, as the cashier cannot carry your progress from one page to the next.
  • Games may not load at all, or may lose their state when you move between pages.
  • Preferences such as language or display settings will reset each time you arrive.
  • Tools that rely on recognising your session may behave inconsistently, although any limits, time-outs or self-exclusion applied to your account continue to apply whatever your browser does.
  • You will still see advertising, but it will be less relevant to you and may repeat more often.

Account controls are not cookie settings

Deposit limits, loss limits, time-outs and self-exclusion are held against your account, not in your browser. Clearing cookies or switching to another device does not lift them.

Changes, safer gambling and how to reach us

We may update this policy when the cookies we use change or when the law requires it. The version published on the site is always the current one, and anything significant will be flagged in the cookie notice so that you can make a fresh choice.

Play on the site is for adults aged 18 or over. We hold a gaming licence and verify the identity of every account holder. You can set deposit limits, take a time-out or self-exclude using the tools shown in your account, and free, confidential support is available from GambleAware, GamCare and the National Gambling Helpline. GamStop allows you to self-exclude from participating online gambling sites.

If you have a question about this policy, want to know more about a particular cookie, or believe a choice you made in the notice has not been respected, contact us at support@casinoblacklabel.co.uk or through the live chat on the site. Please tell us which browser and device you are using, as cookie behaviour differs between them. Wider questions about personal data can be sent to privacy@casinoblacklabel.co.uk.
